Talk: Collaboration in Libraries — BiblioPera: Beyoğlu Research Centers Network

As part of the 62nd National Library Week, a talk will be focusing on collaboration in libraries and inter-institutional collective practices, drawing on the work of BiblioPera: Beyoğlu Research Centers Network.

Moderated by Meltem Çınar, Librarian at Salt, the event will feature İrem Ünal, Branch Librarian at ANAMED, who will present on BiblioPera and share insights into the collaboration between ANAMED and the Netherlands Institute in Turkey (NIT), both partners of the network. Sinem Ayşe Gülmez Saydam, Senior Archivist at Salt, will discuss the process of making the “Rare Publications” collection—comprising approximately 65,000 visuals from the American Board Library—available online through the collaboration between the American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT) and Salt.

Gülşah Altınkaya, Assistant Librarian and Archivist at Arter, and Gülben Akman, Library Assistant, will share their experiences with the “Book Club,” which brings readers together around selected literary works through an inter-library exchange program. Furkan Sevim, Library Supervisor at the Istanbul Research Institute (İAE), will address the strategic importance of BiblioPera’s shared online catalog in collection development policies. Melissa Sivri, Libratian at the Orient-Institut Istanbul, will evaluate international collaborations and internship programs carried out through the Middle East Libraries Committee (MELCom).

The program is open to everyone and free of charge.

BiblioPera: Beyoğlu Research Centers Network is a multilingual information and library network established in 2016 through the collaboration of international research institutions based in Istanbul. Bringing together rich collections in the social sciences, arts, and humanities under a shared catalog, the platform aims to foster scholarly collaboration by offering a collective space of production for researchers and librarians.

Institutions within the BiblioPera network include: German Archaeological Institute (DAI), Arter, Foundation for the Protection and Promotion of the Environment and Cultural Heritage (ÇEKÜL), French Institute of Anatolian Studies (IFEA), Netherlands Institute in Turkey (NIT), Istanbul Research Institute (İAE), Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul (SRII), Koç University Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations (ANAMED), Orient-Institut Istanbul, Salt Research, American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT), Yapı Kredi Research Library, and Sismanoglio Megaro of the Consulate General of Greece.
