Palace Architect of the Second Constitutional Era, M. Vedad [Tek] Bey

Vedad [Tek] Bey worked as the chief architect of Sultan Reşad for about five years during the Constitutional Monarchy period when the political and economic power of the dynasty changed dramatically. “The Palace Architect of II. Constitutional Monarchy M. Vedad [Tek] Bey,” aims to reveal how the new balance of power created by the style of government was reflected in the field of architecture and repair during the period when Vedad Bey was the chief architect, between 1909 and 1914, and interventions were carried out in the dynastic buildings in Istanbul. It closely examines the limits and working conditions of Vedad Bey’s duties under the title of “senior architect” by associating it with the construction and repair projects he prepared. Through the drawings, exploration books, and documents identified in detailed archive studies, it offers a lot of new information about Vedad Bey’s thoughts on architectural practices, his approach to historical buildings, and how he managed his business processes.
