NIT Lecture: Istanbul. A literary stroll

Walking, strolling, running errands and getting lost in the streets: walking and Istanbul belong together. Also in literature. Some of the characters of the most well-known novels and short stories from Turkish literature spend their time roaming through the streets of Istanbul. Galip for example, in Orhan Pamuk’s The Black Book, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar’s Mümtaz in A Mind at Peace, or C. in Yusuf Atılgan’s An Idle Man.

What do they see, what do they think when walking through the city? And why do their authors send them on their walks?

On 21 April Hanneke van der Heijden will give a lecture to have a closer look at these characters, their authors and their walks.
